Who We Are
Ray of Sunshine has a team of highly experienced caretakers at your service! Each team member has extensive experience with animal care both with personal pets and professionally (or on a volunteer basis) with veterinary offices, shelters and rescues. Several of our team members are trained veterinary technicians. Our large team and wide variety of skills ensure that you and your pet will always have an available sitter able to provide the services you need!
Katie Carney is a Certified Veterinary Assistant and Feline Behaviorist.
Katie specializes in the care of cats and kittens with special needs, but she loves ALL kinds of furry critters! Having trained at Oakland Animal Services, Katie currently works with the medical/surgical team there and fosters dozens of injured and sick animals each year. In addition to her BS from Johns Hopkins University, she holds a Certificate in Feline Behavior from the Animal Behavior Institute. She is adept at analyzing the behavior and dietary issues of cats of all ages, and can easily bottle feed kittens, medicate wiggly and uncooperative 'tweenies' or give subcutaneous fluids and pills to sensitive seniors!
Katie has spent thousands of hours working -- and volunteering -- with animal shelters and rescue organizations throughout the SF Bay Area including Berkeley Humane, Cat Town (and the US' first cat cafe: Cat Town Cafe & Adoption Center), Hopalong Second Chance Animal Rescue, Petaluma Pet Pals and many other shelters and rescues. For 2 years, she also worked with the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program, helping to provide invaluable information to shelters worldwide on how to manage their animal populations.
With Ray of Sunshine, Katie not only provides scheduling, pet care and excellent customer service herself, she also guides a team of qualified home caregivers. Each person providing care for your pet will have veterinary and/or lengthy animal care experience in the exact type of care your pet needs. Call today and let us help you meet your pets' needs!
